This page contains personal notes on our visits to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum near Tucson, Arizona.
 Personal Notes

We have visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum many times since 1979. The Museum is always growing and changing and is probably worth at least an annual visit. There is always something new, and the animals are always interesting to watch in their natural habitat.

The Museum tends to be crowded on weekends and holidays, so the best time to visit is during the week. Of course there are fewer visitors during the hot summer months, but there is a good reason for that. The best times to go to avoid the crowds are when the Museum first opens in the morning. And, of course, many of the animals are more active in the cooler temperatures.

The Museum has something for everyone: plants, animals, geology, the big sky of the desert overhead, panoramic views of the Sonoran desert, and lots of sunshine. It's easy to spend an entire day wandering the gravel paths and relaxing at each exhibit to watch the animals in their daily activities or to study the intricacies of the desert vegetation.

The Museum is only a few minutes west of Tucson and sits right in the Tucson Mountain Park and adjacent to Saguaro National Park West. So there is plenty to see and do in the area.

Our last visit was in December of 2003.
