Glen Canyon Dam

On our way back to Sandy from Tucson we stopped at the Visitor Center parking lot at Glen Canyon Dam to take photos (about 2:35 p.m.). It was sunny, very cold, and windy. It was quite obvious that the reservoir is way down from its normal volume. The white bathtub ring around above the water line is about 130 below the highest point.

The dam area is interesting if you are into manmade structures and engineering feats. Dams always seem to exude an energy that I suspect comes from the generation of electricity, the massive structure itself, and the force of the formerly wild waters being retained.

10:00 a.m.
It was about 68 degrees out when we stopped at Glen Canyon Dam. We had wanted to take the dam tour, but just missed it. The next one wouldn’t be ready to go for another hour. We didn’t want to take that long, so we looked around the Visitor Center, then walked around outside and looked over the edge and from the bridge and took a bunch of photos of the dam and the river. We’ll have to stop back on some other occasion.

Just before we got to the dam we crossed into Arizona. So we gained an hour.
