Campground on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. This page contains information on camping within Grand Canyon National Park.
 Camping

Camping is limited to established campgrounds. Staying overnight at overlooks and parking lots is not permitted. Violators are subject to citation and/or fine.

Dispersed Camping

  • North Rim: Dispersed camping is permitted in the national forest outside of the park. There are restrictions, however. Inquire at the North Rim Visitor Center inside the park, or at Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center at Jacob Lake (520-643-7298). In winter, contact the North Kaibab Ranger District, Kaibab National Forest, P.O. Box 248, Fredonia, Arizona 86022, or call 520-643-7395.
  • South Rim: You may camp almost anywhere in the national forest outside of the Park. Camping must be at least .25 miles away from the main highway. Other restrictions may apply. Call 520-638-2443 for more information.

Backcountry Camping

A backcountry permit is required to camp below the rim. A fee is charged. You must get permits in advance. To get a Backcountry Trip Planner, write to the park address or check out the Park's Web site. You may submit your completed applications by mail, in person, or by fax at 520-638-2125.
