After our visit to Canyon de Chelly National Monument, we stopped at the Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site in Ganado, Arizona. When we arrived It was 82 degrees. There is a small Visitor Center in a rustic stone building, where we picked up information, including a tour guide. We then walked the grounds around the historic site, taking a lot of photos of the old structures, wagons, farm implements, etc. One of our favorite buildings was the hogan-like guest house (the entrance is pictured above).
After touring the grounds we went inside to check out the still active trading post. They sell food items, implements, household utensils and cooking equipment, as well as native pottery and Navajo blankets. They have an entire room dedicated to the blankets, which are very nice, but quite expensive; we found one there for $4000. A little steep for our budget, but beautiful.
The store has that old west rustic feel about it, with its high wooden beams covered with items for sale, its creaky and worn wooden floor, and a definite feel of history.
4:09 p.m.
When we finished our visit we headed on into New Mexico and the small city of Gallup.
