 Hiking

The hiking is limited here, but the main trail climbs to the top of the peak for a splendid view of the Sonoran Desert. Some areas require the use of chains to get through safely.

Hunter Trail

Trailhead: To reach the trailhead, take Picacho Peak Road from I-10 and follow it into Picacho Peak State Park. The trailhead is located off of the Barrett Scenic Loop (32 38.549N; 111 24.155W).
Description: The trail's condition is fair. This difficult trail climbs a volcanic cone vegetated with flora typical of the Sonoran desert. The route is steep and twisting, with 15 sets of posts and steel cables anchored into the rock in places where the surface is bare. The view from the summit is magnificent.
