| Even without its spectacular springtime poppy show, Picacho Peak would be a fascinating place, for its scenery, its history, and its state park recreation facilities. The peak itself is outstanding, a 1,500-foot volcanic spire rising abruptly from the level Santa Cruz River valley close beside the Tucson-Phoenix freeway, a landmark for many miles around. |
