The Tonto National Forest has
a system of nearly 900 miles of National Forest System Trails
(sometimes called "System Trails") maintained within
the Forest Boundaries. Their primary management objective is
to provide a variety of opportunities for hikers, bikers, and
equestrians. Most are not suitable for motor vehicles of any
type. Their condition ranges from good to very poor. Challenges
include steep grades, heavy brush, washouts, and sometimes difficulty
in finding the trail. Rewards include visiting areas seldom
seen, discovery of unique features, getting away from the crowds,
and breathtaking views of distant vistas.
