 Personal Notes

Though we have driven by Pipe Springs on many occassions, it wasn't until May 25, 2001 that we finally made the time to stop. It is a compact, small park that is more like a living museum than a recreation area. There are very nice exhibits of life in the days when the settlers occupied this area. There is a very nice tour of the fort, and live farm animals and farm implements help to round out the visit.

This is an exposed area and could be quite hot in the Summer months, however, there are some shady areas, and the Visitor Center would provide some brief relief from the Sun. I think we spent about an hour touring the site and taking the guided tour. It's a little off the main path between larger parks, but if you are headed between the north rim of the Grand Canyon and Zion or Bryce, you might consider making the 15 mile drive from Fredonia to the Monument. It would give you some time to stretch your legs and relax in the style of the Old West.
