 Overview
From east to west, the Santa Catalina Mountains, just north of Tucson, provide a variety of hiking and camping opportunities throughout the year. There are desert canyons in the lower elevations, and pine shaded trails near the top, especially in the Mount Lemon area.  However, being close to the metropolitan area, it is a popular getaway for the city folk, so don't expect too much solitude. The Santa Catalina Mountains are administered as a unit of the Coronado National Forest by the U.S. Forest Service.
