 Overview
The Mammoth Lakes Area includes much of the 1.9 million acres of the Inyo National Forest. There are pristine lakes, fragile meadows, winding streams, rugged Sierra Nevada peaks, and arid Great Basin mountains. Elevations range from 4,000 to 14,494 feet, providing diverse habitats that support vegetation patterns ranging from semiarid deserts to high alpine fell-fields. Needless to say, there are a variety of year-round recreational opportunities.
