We had some time to kill, so we drove down through Bear Creek Canyon Park, a little south and west of Colorado Springs. The roads through there can be a bit confusing, especially if you are trying to use a map that is not very detailed. There are a good number of private houses snuggled up in the ridges and along the sides of the canyons, so the little side roads and entrances add to the confusion, but we eventually found our way through.

The road through the park is often narrow and paved only part way. I am not sure when we were in or out of the park proper, but at one point the pavement turns to dirt and gravel and we encountered at least two tunnels cut through raw rock. That seems strange, but it must be safe enough or I doubt the managers of the park would risk the legal results of a rock fall. There was a little bit of snow along some edges, but mostly just a dusting. Fortunately there wasn’t a lot of traffic, because the roads are narrow and in some places it would be difficult for two vehicles to pass. We did meet one or two vehicles coming the other way, but we were able to get by without much difficulty.
The scenery is mostly pine covered mountain slopes, canyons, and high ridges. There was some snow highlighting the darker trees. We didn't notice any marked trails or other signs of activity. Just a nice drive. It is an interesting area, with some great views of deep canyons and glimpses of the city to the east.
We followed High Road out of the park and down to North Cheyenne Canyon Park.
