9:16 a.m.
We made a quick stop at Buffalo Bills Grave and Memorial. It was 45 degrees outside, with clear skies. That felt pretty good after coming from Silverthorn and its single digit temperatures.

This was a location that I'd visited with my parents back in 1957, when I was seven years old, and I'd always wanted to get back to refresh my memories. Of course, in the mean time, I'd read and heard of the legendary Buffalo Bill Cody, so there was a bit more meaning to this visit. Although, as I expected, the site has (or maybe was then) become quite commercial. There is a large parking lot near a museum ($3.00 per person to visit), and a large gift shop. But it does not cost a cent to stroll the pleasant wooden deck and take in the great views of Golden and Denver and the plains beyond. The area is surronded by pine trees and there are mountain views to the west.

There are free restrooms inside the gift shop and cafe, and a short, easy paved path up to the grave site, which sits upon a hill. The grave site itself is surrounded by a heavy rought iron fence. On this day there was some snow covering portions of the grave.

9:48 a.m.
After we finished our short visit to the grave site, we made the short drive up to Lookout Mountain and Buecher Nature Center just to see what was up there. We had noted the signs along the road. We didn't get out, but both the Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Buecher Mansion look interesting. There also seem to be a few trails, and several animal viewing areas. It would be a nice place to spend an autumn or spring afternoon.
