Hornbek Wildlife Loop

Description: Following meadows, the trail to the historic Hornbek Homestead crosses land once occupied by Lake Florissant. The return route overlooks the ancient lake bed and the mountain ranges beyond. Signs of elk, deer, coyote, and other wildlife are common along the scenic loop.
Petrified Forest Loop Trail

Description: This is a self-guided trail through the bed of ancient Lake Florissant which exposes an unusual natural history, including the historic Scudder Pit. The colorful "Big Stump" dominates a forest of silica giants along the path.
Walk Through Time Trail

Description: This is a self-guided trail that provides a scenic introduction to Florissant Fossil Beds. The path features giant petrified redwood stumps and an outcrop of fossil-bearing shale.
