Overview

Wilderness Areas preserve the natural habitat of our stressed resources and open spaces. Motorized vehicles are prohibited, as is much of our "normal" human activity. Access to many wilderness areas is limited and controlled, but there are many hiking and exploring opportunities. Often there are not even established trails to follow. We've organized links to the established wilderness area and ongoing wilderness study area Web sites by state.
