The entrance fee is $8.00 per vehicle. Those entering by bicycle, motorcycle, or foot pay $4.00 per person. Individuals age 15 and under enter free. |

The Monument and Preserve remains open all year, although winter snows prevent automobile access around the Loop Drive from mid-November through mid-April. During the open period the road remains open at all hours.

- All lava is sharp. Be sure you take the proper safety precautions.
- In the backcountry, roads are infrequently or never maintained and vehicular travel can often be difficult. A high-clearance 4-wheel-drive vehicle with good tires is advisablepassenger car travel is not recommended. There are absolutely no services available within this area. Have good maps and/or direction-finding equipment and use them. Be aware of rapidly changing road conditions.
