 Overview

In December 1951 the wintry landscape in Idaho was illuminated by electrical power from Experimental Breeder Reactor Number 1 (EBR-1), the world's first nuclear power plant. EBR-1 became a registered national historic landmark in 1966.

Visitors will see four nuclear reactors, including two aircraft nuclear propulsion prototypes, a reactor control room, remote handling devices for radioactive materials, radiation detection counters, and more. You'll learn how electricity is produced from splitting atoms and see numerous explanatory displays and exhibits. You can walk through the plant using using the printed tour instructions, or take a guided tour with one of the tour guides on duty.
