Shoshone Falls / Dierkes Lake Park
We drove south on Blue Lakes Boulevard North to Falls Avenue and headed east. At 3300 East Road we turned north to the Shoshone Falls Park. There was a $3.00 entrance fee. We almost had the park to ourselves. It is a well groomed grassy area, with some shade trees and lots of paved pathways to overlooks with views of the Snake River, the gorge, and, of course, the falls. But the falls were not very spectacular this year because of the drought and the farmers need for irrigation water. There were a few thin streams of water pouring over the edge, but nothing like in the photos we had seen. But we could see where the water normally poured over the edges. It was still an interesting area. We could view the dams and power plants; there were marmots, ground squirrels, and Canadian Geese; and, it was a pleasant place to take time and breathe the fresh air.
We bought a snow cone and lemonade at the refreshment stand. There were also modern rest rooms here.
Dierkes Lake is next to the Shoshone Falls and provided some different views of the area and the dams. We saw a dead constrictor-type snake in this area.
