When we left our motel in Scottsbluff it was a chilly 54 degrees outside, but the sky was mostly clear. We headed east on U.S. Highway 26, toward Ogallala. We stopped to take a few photos near Chimney Rock National Historic Site, then continued southeast to the Ash Hollow State Historical Park.

There is a $2.00 fee, but the Visitor Center was closed, and we didn't see anyplace where we could pay. So we went ahead and made a quick tour along the main paved road. At the end of one section we came upon a parking area and an old stone school house. We walked out to peek into the windows. It looks like they've restored some of the old desks and school supplies and equipment. Kind of interesting.

Most of the area is grass covered rolling hills, with some areas of trees. It’s a pretty area for Nebraska, and has historic significance due to the Emigrant Trails running through the area. Across the highway, and about two miles farther down the highway to the east, there is another section of the Park dedicated to Windlass Hill and other historic markers. Due to time constraints we did not stop to visit that area. But it looked just as interesting as the other section.
