There are a few trails within the Refuge. Most are easy, relatively flat walking through tall grass and under even taller cottonwood trees.

Bertrand Trail

Description: This trail explores the old river channel and takes the visitor through grassland and marsh habitats.
Cottonwood and Grassland Trail
Distance: 1.5 mile loop Rating: Easy

Description: This is a .75 mile interpreted trail through the woods and a .75 mile trail in grasslands that allow a close examination of the plant and animal life along the Missouri River.
Missouri Meander Trail
Distance: 1 mile twin-loop Rating: Easy

Trailhead: Adjacent to the DeSoto Visitor Center.
Description: This trail is open year-round. One short loop is paved. Crossing a footbridge, the natural meanders through woods and along DeSoto Lake.
Wood Duck Pond Trail
Distance: .75 mile loop Rating: Easy
Elevation:   Total Ascent: None
Trailhead:  
Description: This interpreted trail crosses Wood Duck Pond and leads through woods and along the grassland edge. Visitors may observe wildlife management practices demonstrated nearby.
