Missouri River from Fontenelle Forest, Omaha, Nebraska. This page presents our personal notes on our visits to Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
 Personal Notes

When I lived in Nebraska, up until 1979, I visited Fontenelle Forest on several occasions. It was one of those places that was always there, just a quick drive away from just about anywhere in Omaha. So ... as is the sad situation, we didn't go as often as we should have.

Fontenelle is a deciduous forest along the bluffs above the Missouri River, and has always had a few marked trails. It seems that in its current stage of development that there are many more defined trails passing through all parts of the forest. The trails should not be too difficult, because the highest elevation gain could only be a hundred feet or so, climbing back up from the river bank to the parking areas on the bluff above.

I remember the forest being buggy and humid at times, but I'm sure in the spring and the fall the conditions are much more suited to a casual stroll through the area. I can only imagine how wonderful the autumn colors must be, and the lazy sound of feet shuffling through fallen leaves.
