 Overview

The Nebraska National Forest has the only, and largest, man-made, hand-planted, forested area in the United States. The forest offers a range of recreation, while the ranger's lookout offers a panoramic view. Most of the plants and trees are not native. Many, such as Douglas fir, Ginkgo, and Norway spruce, were planted to see if they would grow and thrive in Nebraska's sandy soil.
