 Personal Notes

Saturday, August 3, 2002

On the way across the Snake Valley, just below Great Basin National Park, we stopped at the Baker Archaeological Site. There had been an excavation of a Fremont Indian Site back in the early ‘90s. The site is back-filled now, to protect the dwellings, but they have constructed short walls to demonstrate where the dwellings are. There are also grid markers still in place, and an interpretive trail and guide that informs the visitor. It is worth a quick stop, if you are not in a hurry to get somewhere else.

There are also picnic tables under a covered area, with some displays of what the village might have looked like.

This site is exposed, so mid-day visits in the heat of the summer and during mid-winter require special precautions.
