 Hiking

Summer temperatures reach 120 degrees F. in the shade. It is best to visit between October and May for the best hiking weather.

Opportunities for hiking can be found along Northshore Road. When hiking in the desert, whether for an all day hike or just stretching your legs, follow these important safety tips:

  • Never hike alone.
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you plan to return.
  • Carry at least one gallon of water per person, and drink often.
  • Set a nice easy pace, take your time, and enjoy the scenery.
  • See NPS Recreation Area Hiking for detailed information on these trails.
  • See our Backpacking Tips.
  • See our Day Hiking Tips.
