Hiking and backpacking are becoming increasingly more popular
in the Ruby Mountain Scenic Area, especially along the Ruby
Crest Trail. Snow stays late in the high country and most
of the lakes are frozen until July.
To help protect the fragile mountain soils and vegetation,
hikers are urged to stay on the trails and not cut switchbacks.

This trail extends to the south, terminating at Harrison Pass. The trail follows the "backbone" of the Ruby Mountains and leads by numerous high mountain lakes providing beautiful vistas and excellent fishing. The 7 mile stretch nearest to Lamoille Canyon is used more heavily than any other trail in the Ruby Range. For maximum privacy, try visiting this area during midweek or in the two months after Labor Day. Winter snow can linger on the passes until July. |
