Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park is noted for its six beehive shaped charcoal ovens that have been restored to their original condition. The charcoal ovens were originally used to provide charcoal for the smelting of silver in the nearby mining town of Ward.

Park is located in the Egan Mountain Range approximately 18 miles south of Ely, Nevada. Drive seven miles south from Ely on U.S. Highways
6-50-93, then eleven miles southwest on Cave Valley Road. The Park may also be accessed by turning off of U.S. Highway 6-50-93 approximately 14 miles south of
Ely and then 5 miles west on Taylor Road to Cave Valley Road, then 1.5 miles
southwest to the Park entrance. Cave Valley Road and Taylor Road are graded dirt
roads, accessible by passenger vehicles most of the year. (See map.)

Park weather is highly seasonal with wide variations in temperature.
- Summertime highs may range from the upper 80s and 90s with lows in the 30s and 40s at night.
- Wintertime highs are often in the 30s and 40s and nights are often below zero. Extreme lows may reach 30 below zero. Snow is common from early December through early April, with several feet on the ground through the peak winter months.
- The remainder of the year is relatively dry, and rain and snow showers are infrequent. However, late afternoon summer thunderstorms are common.
