Bandelier National Monument is rich with archaeological sites which were the homes of ancestral Pueblo people from the twelfth through the sixteenth centuries. Trails afford access to tan cliffs, forested mesas, and deep gorges in a dramatic landscape formed by a huge volcanic eruption more than a million years ago. Two-thirds of the Park is wilderness.
