Carlsbad Cavern contains one of the world's largest underground chambers and is an incomparable realm of gigantic subterranean chambers, beautiful cave formations, and surprising cave residents, including the famous Mexican free-tail bat. The Park's more than 70 caves include the nation's deepest limestone cave.

Fees: Cave Entry Fee: $6.00 per adult, $3.00 for children between 6 and 15, free for children under 6 years of age. Minimum age for the cave tour is 4 years of age.
Hours: Open daily except for December 25. See specific information for Cave Tours.
Visitor Center: Open from Memorial Day through mid-August, daily, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; from mid-August through Memorial Day, daily, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Facilities: Visitor center, picnic areas, nature trails, restaurant, gift shop, nursery, kennel, and restrooms.

  • Just off of U.S. 62-180, 20 miles from Carlsbad and 150 miles from El Paso, Texas.
  • The Visitor Center, near the Carlsbad Cavern entrance, is 7 miles from White's City, New Mexico.

Weather:
  • Summers are usually hot and winters mild. However, extreme changes can come at any time of the year.
  • In spring, winds can be strong.
  • In summer, thunderstorms accompanied by brief, but often heavy, downpours, may bring flash floods to the canyon bottoms.
  • In winter the normally mild weather may be broken by a short-lived snowstorm or a bone-chilling cold front sweeping through on gale force winds.
  • In the caverns, the temperature remains a constant 56 degrees F., year-round.
