Great wavelike dunes of gypsum sand grace the floor of the Tularosa Basin of southern New Mexico. In this harsh, constantly changing environment, plants and animals have evolved unique forms for survival. White Sands National Monument preserves a vast undulating landscape of brilliant white sand, the most impressive part of the world's largest gypsum dune field.
