Backcountry Camping

Backcountry overnight hikers must get a permit at the Visitor Center. There are no designated backcountry trails or campsites. Low-impact camping techniques are essential. You must carry all of your water. No fires are allowed.

Reservations

There is a reservation system in place. To make reservations for Arches National Park visit the ReserveUSA Web site, or call (toll-free) 877-444-6777. Some individual sites and both group sites may be reserved for dates between March 1 and October 31. Reservations must be at least four days in advance.

Park staff cannot make reservations for you, and will not know what dates are available. For current information about the reservation system, visit the Park's Web site or call the Park information line at 435-719-2299.

During the busy season, some individual sites will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. These generally fill early in the day. Though advance reservations cannot be made for these sites, you must pre-register at the Visitor Center before proceeding to the campground.

  Devil's Garden Campground
Season: Open year-round.
Location: 18 miles from the Park entrance.
Availability: First come, first served, but some sites can be reserved (see Reservations).
Fee: $15.00 per night fee is charged year-round.
Sites: 52 tent and trailer sites. Elevation: 5100 feet
Group Sites:

There are two walk-in group sites that are each limited to tents and my be reserved for eleven or more people. $3.00 per person per night, with a $33.00 per night minimum. No recreational vehicles or trailers are permitted in group sites.

  • Juniper Basin Campsite—This site can accommodate up to 55 people. Can be reserved between March 1 and October 31.
  • Canyon Wren Campsite—This site can accommodate up to 35 people. Can be reserved year round.

Comments:
  • Flush toilets and water available from mid-March through mid-October. Chemical toilets are available in winter, and water can be obtained at the Visitor Center.
  • Between March 1 and October 31 the campground fills daily, often by 10:00 a.m. Plan to arrive early.
