While camping at the Red Canyon Recreation Area campground we made a trip into Bryce Canyon National Park to collect information for a future hike.
Park Shuttles
We discovered that the shuttles would not be running until mid-June. When they do start they will run from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will no longer be a shuttle out to Rainbow Point. That really messes up our plans to do the 22 mile Under the Rim Trail hike in a single day. We had done it in two one-day stretches previously. We will have to find someone willing to drive us up there and drop us off.
Public Showers
We also discovered that there are public showers behind the little store at Sunrise Point. That will be nice for when we've finished our long hike.
Campgrounds
We also drove through both campgrounds and feel that Sunset Point Campground would be the better option for us. That way, if we miss the shuttle, it will be a shorter walk to the campground. The current rates are $10.00 per night, for up to 10 people and two vehicles. They have a twenty-foot length limit on RVs in certain areas, and that is the total length of the vehicle and the towed trailer. Tents are not allowed in the RV section, unless accompanied by an RV or trailer.
