Burr Trail Scenic Backway
Personal Notes
This page presents our personal notes on our visits to the Burr Trail Scenic Backway in Utah.
I first looked out over the Burr Trail from Boulder Mountain in the summer of 1971. At that time it was still a dirt road. Since then most of the road has been paved (except for the 22 mile portion within Capitol Reef National Park). And since that time I have been up and down the Burr Trail on several occasions. The most exciting portion of the road has to be the tight switchbacks at the head of Burr Canyon. Even after several journeys up and down, they still get the adrenaline pumping.
Long Canyon is also an amazing stretch of road. It always reminds me of a straightened out Zion Canyon National Park, although the actual geology is different. If you like arches, keep your eyes open. There are arches here and there for the ready observer.
See our Personal Notes for Capitol Reef National Park for Saturday, October 25, 2008 for more details.
