Calf Creek Falls Recreation Area, operated by the Bureau of Land Management, is a great spot for a picnic and a hike. The Calf Creek Campground is the trailhead for the 5.5 mile round trip hike into the lower falls. The trail is sandy, and very strenuous walking, and can be exhausting, particularly in very warm weather. However, the falls area, once reached, is a delightfully cool, shady haven well worth the effort. Calf Creek cascades 126 feet from the rock walls above into a pool surrounded by shade trees.
Rock art panels from early Native American life can be seen in this bit of paradise along Calf Creek. |
