Backcountry Camping

Primitive campsites are located along four-wheel-drive roads and in other remote areas; they do not have water. Backcountry permits and fees are required for primitive camping.

  Squaw Flat
Season: Open year-round.
Location: 35 miles west off of Highway 191 on Highway 211, in the Needles District.
Availability: First come, first served.
Fee: $10.00 per night.
Sites: 26 tent and RV sites. Elevation: 5,100 feet.
Group Sites: Can be reserved by writing to the park.
Stay Limit: 7 days.
RV Hookups: No Maximum Length: 21 feet.
Sanitary Dump: Yes Drinking Water: Yes; spring through fall.
Restrooms: Flush toilets and pit toilets. Showers: No
Picnic Tables: Yes Fire Pit/Grill: Yes
Firewood: Firewood cannot be collected in the Park, but it can be purchased at the Needles Outpost just outside of the park.
Laundry: No Groceries/Supplies: At Needles Outpost.
Quiet Hours: N/A
Campground Host: Occasionally. Campfire Program: Yes
Checkout Time: 10:00 a.m.
Comments: Leave the site cleaner than you found it.

  Willow Flat
Season: Open year-round.
Location: 41 miles west off of Highway 191 on Highway 313, in the Island in the Sky District.
Availability: First come, first served.
Fee: $5.00 per night.
Sites: 12 sites. Elevation: 6,000 feet.
Group Sites: N/A
Stay Limit: 7 days.
RV Hookups: N/A Maximum Length: 23 feet.
Sanitary Dump: N/A Drinking Water: No
Restrooms: Vault toilets. Showers: N/A
Picnic Tables: Yes Fire Pit/Grill: N/A
Firewood: Firewood cannot be collected in the Park.
