 Potash Road

The Potash Road (Highway 279) heads west just north of Moab, on the north side of the Colorado River. There are several locations along the road where petroglyph panels can be seen on the blackened, sheer cliff faces on the north side of the road. Some are marked. The general area is at Map Coordinates (NAD83): ~ 38 33.168 N; 109 35.67 W; at an elevation of 3,968 feet.

This is one of the marked, and more prominent of the panels along the Potash Road. I believe this is called the Bear Panel, for obvious reasons. There are also several examples of Desert Bighorns and anthropomorphs with bow and arrow.

This is an interesting panel with several anthropomorphs. As you can probably tell by the angle of this shot, many of the rock art images along Potash Road are higher up the cliff face. It becomes apparent that the ground level was much higher at one time, and has been washed away by season flooding.

This panel is interesting because of the string of characters holding hands. There also seems to be some sort of a centipede, footprint, bighorn sheep, and on the right side perhaps a bird of some sort. On the left side, there is the profile of a face. Most of it is cut off in this shot, but you can see the nose. That is unique, and we haven't seen that on any other panel.
