The turnoff for the Cottonwood Falls Site is along Highway 95, 6 miles from its intersection with Highway 191. There is a sign indicating the South Cottonwood National Forest Access. It is County Road 228 and is near milepost 115. At this junction it is a paved road, but about one mile north it turns to graded dirt.
8:42 a.m.
At 1.5 miles from the turn off we came to a large open area east of the road, with a few tall trees. The area is obviously used by off-road enthusiasts and campers. There is a jeep trail across the road, on the west side, which heads steeply up the side of a rise above the road. We headed off up that road.
9:28 a.m.
We did find some ruins, but are unsure if they are those described to us. We walked up the hill and found a large area of mounds and depressions along the right side (east) of the trail. There are tumbled stones, pot shards, and flakes. This really didn’t strike us as a kiva, but as more of a dwelling, since there was a garbage midden along the east side (where we spotted the shards and other items). Contact us for the exact GPS Coordinates.

Driving back from this location, we took a side road that headed off to the west, just to see if perhaps it was the road described to us. But again, at the 1.5 mile distance, we did not see any signs of a ruin.
