Danger Cave State Park
Rock Art:
Jukebox Cave
This page presents information on and photos of the rock art found within Jukebox Cave within Danger Cave State Park in Utah.
Taking photographs of the rock art within Jukebox Cave is a challenge because there is little natural light entering the cave. All of the photos on this page were taken using the built in flash on my digital camera. The photos were then cropped and enhanced for best presentation. Some blurring is a natural result of this sort of photography, with the inexpensive equipment used at this time.
There is not a lot of rock art in the cave. It all appears to be along what appears to be the west wall (left wall facing in to the cave). It appears to be created using charcoal and is likely all of historical origin, possibly Shoshone or Ute, as evidenced by the use of horses and what look like rifles.

| JC001: A rider on a horse. The rider may be holding a bow and arrow. | |
| JC002: This rider and horse have been obscured. | |
| JC003: This rider and horse definitely have a bow and arrow. | |
| JC004: This rider and horse were drawn sideways. The rider may be aiming a rifle. | |
| JC005: This is the only zoomorph that I could find on this panel. It looks to be a Desert Big Horn. | |
| JC006: This looks to be another rider on a horse, but the rider is a bit obscured. | |
| JC007: This group shows the relationship of the individual elements found in JC003, JC004, and JC005. | |
| JC008: This is another group of several riders on their horses. | |
| JC009: This is a closer look at some of the figures in JC008. | |
| JC010: The rider on this horse may be throwing a spear, or he might have a long rifle. | |
| JC011: This rider appears to be shooting a rifle. | |
| JC021: In this nice set we see the top rider using a bow and arrow, while the other two dark figures appear to be using rifles. If you look close to the lower left you can see a small gray rider and horse as well. There is also a small mule rider near the bottom. | |
| JC024: This unarmed rider seems to be riding a mule, as mentioned in JC021. Could this represent a missionary? | |
| JC014: Here's another horse with a rider shooting a rifle. | |
| JC015: Another rider apparently shooting a rifle. | |
| JC016: This is the small gray figure mentioned in JC012. | |
| JC017: A rider with a bow and arrow. | |
| JC018: A partially obscured group of several riders. | |
| JC019: This anthropomorph seems out of place here, and may be older than the riders and horses. I've seen a similar figure elsewhere, possibly at the McConkie Ranch, which has mostly Classic Vernal Style Fremont figures. | |
| JC020: A pair of riders facing each other. Does this represent confrontation? | |
| JC022: This small horse has very long, spindly legs, and the rider does not appear to have a weapon. | |
| JC023: Another group of riders and horses with weapons on one type or another. | |
| JC025: Three riders and horses. | |
| JC026: This is an interesting group of riders on horses. It appears that the artist utilized existing colorful areas in the rock to give color to the horses, building the riders and legs an other parts round them. Either that or the colored portions of these horses was painted on. | |
| JC027: This is a closer look at JC026. A close examination would have to be done to determine if the color is part of the native rock, or if it is painted on. Color had not been used anywhere else within this site. | |
