Escalante State Park is located in the heart of southern Utah, 44 miles east of Bryce Canyon National Park. The park is a showcase of petrified wood, fossilized dinosaur bones, and the remnants of an ancient Fremont Indian village and petroglyphs. Backcountry explorers might see fossilized dinosaur bones or remnants from the ancient Fremont Indians who inhabited the area nearly 1,000 years ago. There is a Visitor Center, campground, and Wide Hollow Reservoir.

Fees: Day use fees are charged.
Hours: Open daily, year-round.

Facilities: Offers camping, picnicking, and hiking. Two established trails take you through vast deposits of the most beautiful petrified wood found anywhere, while Wide Hollow Reservoir offers great fishing and cool swimming and canoeing.
Directions:

Drive one mile west of the town of Escalante on Utah 12, then take signed Wide Hollow Road one mile north to the Park.

Regulations:
  • Pets are allowed in the Park, but should be confined or contained on a maximum six-foot leash. Seeing Eye dogs are the only animals admitted in the Park buildings. Pets are not permitted on developed beaches or in lakes and streams. For safety and courtesy, keep your pets under control.
  • All plants, animals, minerals, and other natural features in the Park are protected. It is unlawful to remove, alter, destroy, or molest them.
  • Possession or use of firearms, traps, or other devices capable of launching a projectile that can immobilize, injure, or kill a person or animal or damage property is prohibited unless the weapon or device is unloaded and packed away to prevent its use, being used for the legal pursuit of wildlife, or being used by authorized enforcement officers in the performance of official duties.
  • Explosives, fireworks, or firecrackers are prohibited unless authorized by the park manager.
  • It is unlawful to mutilate or deface any natural or constructed feature or structure.
  • The speed limit on Park roads is 15 m.p.h. unless otherwise posted.
  • It is unlawful to dump or drain waste water from campers or trailers onto the ground. The Park provides utility sinks and/or sanitary disposal stations.
  • Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.
