Golden Spike National Historic Site
Personal Notes
This page presents our personal notes on our visit to Golden Spike National Historic Site in Utah.
We have visited the Golden Spike National Historic Site once, in the mid-90s. It is out in the middle of nowhere and there really isn't much to see there unless you're a real railroad buff. There is a small museum, a couple of old rail cars and engines, and sections of the original tracks. There are a couple of driving and walking trails along the old beds, but not too much else.
The scenery is typical Great Basin, so it can be kind of plain, depending upon the season. But, with all that said, it is worth visiting the site at least once to get a feel for what the workers went through as they built this section of the Transcontinental Railroad.
