Route In
9:01 a.m.
We reached the Visitor Center for the National Fish Hatchery. As the Jones Hole Road approaches Jones Hole a series of magnificent cliffs comes into view. They are quite impressive and massive. The road descends along a series of loose switchbacks and ends at the marked parking area for the Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery. The area is pretty open, and visitors are
allowed to wander through the facility. There is a Visitor Center, where guests are allowed to wander around the tanks filled with fishlings. There is also information, cold drinking water, and restrooms. There are informational kiosks scattered throughout the grounds that tell the story of what they are doing there. There are also a few picnic tables near the parking area, but they are, for the most part, exposed to the sun.

We used the restrooms, then put on our boots and slipped on our packs, ready to head out. The GPS Coordinates for the parking area/trailhead are: 40 35.250N; 109 3.416W; at an elevation of 5,570 feet. There was a bit of a breeze, the air was warm, but not hot. We sprayed on some insect repellent because there were already a few mosquitoes, and the trail passes most of its length near a stream and under a canopy of deciduous trees.
