 Overview

The Mirror Lake Scenic Byway winds 42 miles through the Uinta Mountains of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The Byway provides access to one of Utah's most valuable pieces of high altitude terrain. Serving as Utah's primary watershed, the ancient mountains hold the headwaters for four major rivers. The Byway also provides access to many of the 400 lakes found throughout the Uinta range.

Area: 42 miles
Elevation: From 7,000 to nearly 12,000 feet.
Fees: A $3.00 fee is charged for entering the area.
Hours: N/A
Visitor Center: None
Facilities: Restrooms, drinking water, trails, campgrounds.
Directions:

Weather:
  • Mountain weather is very unpredictable. A sunny, cloudless morning can quickly turn into a wet, cold afternoon, so always carry rain gear and extra layers of clothing.
  • Lightning can approach quite suddenly and injuries from strikes have occurred nearly every summer in the Uintas. Avoid high peaks and open areas during thunderstorms.

Regulations:
  • Fires—Currently fires are not allowed in Naturalist Basin and some of the more heavily used areas in the wilderness. In other parts of the forest, campfires are allowed unless there is a closure due to extreme wildfire danger.
  • Dogs—Be considerate of other visitors and wildlife. Keep your pets under control at all times. Leashes are required in campgrounds and at trailheads.
  • Before visiting the National Forest, be sure to check with the ranger station for specific regulations such as group size limits, motorized vehicle restrictions, or seasonal fire closures.
