West Mercur / West Dip (Ghost Town)

UT Icon West Mercur, Utah West Mercur, an old mining facility in Utah.

West Mercur was settled in 1895 and was known locally as West Dip because of the incline of the strata the mines were in which dipped 45 degrees west in contrast with the easterly dip in nearby Mercur. At one time this was a large town of mining buildings and many houses.

The dirt road from Mercur Canyon heads northerly, paralleling Highway 73 for 1.2 miles to the center of the ruins.
