The Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail
State Park has turned an abandoned railroad right-of-way
into a recreational area. The park is generally 135
feet wide and 30 miles long, running from Park City
to Echo Reservoir. The trail itself is about 15 feet
wide. The scenery includes mountain-framed meadows,
the volcanic crags of Silver Creek Canyon, the Weber
River, the shores of Echo Reservoir, and steep-walled
Echo Canyon. |

To reach the Promontory trailhead, look for Exit 2, the first exit south of I-80, on Highway 40. It is near the Silver Creek Industrial Park. Turn east and drive about a mile, following the signs. There is a large open parking area with a vault toilet and a kiosk.
