The Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail State Park has turned an abandoned railroad right-of-way into a recreational area. The park is generally 135 feet wide and 30 miles long, running from Park City to Echo Reservoir. The trail itself is about 15 feet wide. The scenery includes mountain-framed meadows, the volcanic crags of Silver Creek Canyon, the Weber River, the shores of Echo Reservoir, and steep-walled Echo Canyon.

Elevation: From 5,280 to 6,900 feet.
Fees: None
Hours: Open for day use, year-round, with no hour limitations.
Visitor Center: None
Facilities: There are vault toilets at the trailheads. The park is set up for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, jogging, Nordic skiing, and wildlife viewing.
Directions:

To reach the Promontory trailhead, look for Exit 2, the first exit south of I-80, on Highway 40. It is near the Silver Creek Industrial Park. Turn east and drive about a mile, following the signs. There is a large open parking area with a vault toilet and a kiosk.
