Makah Recreational Use Permits

The Makah Tribe requires that all nonresident motor vehicles entering the Makah Nation for recreation purposes purchase a Recreational Use Permit. This permit may be purchased at the Makah Tribal Council, Makah Marina, Big Salmon Fishing Resort, Washburn's General Store, Makah Museum, Neah Bay Charter and Tackle, Makah Fuel Company, and the Makah Smoke Shop.

  • Permits cost $7.00 per car and they are valid for the calendar year during which they are purchased.
  • Visitors that have official business with the Tribe, or who purchase a Makah Fishing Permit, will be issued a complimentary Recreational Use Permit. The purpose of the permits is to maintain proper use of the Makah Nation's most popular tourist areas, such as the Cape Trail, Hobuck Beach, and the Shi Shi Trail.
  • For Recreation Permit Information, phone 360-645-3213.
  • The permit entitles the purchaser access to public recreational areas. Be respectful of private property areas.
  • Be respectful of all beaches and other natural environments by not littering, hunting, driving on beaches, or harvesting plants or animals, including firewood, shells, and driftwood.
