There is a locked gate at the site. You must obtain a key (no charge) at the State Bath House in Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis.
Legend Rock is located west of Thermopolis off Highway 120. Follow Highway 120 toward Cody for 20.1 miles, until you see the second Hamilton Dome sign on the right side of the road, and a large green High Island Ranch sign on the left. Turn left onto this two-lane paved road and follow it for approximately five miles, where you will reach a fork in the road. There are two black mailboxes and an asphalt pile on the right. Merge right onto the gravel road. While on this road you will cross two cattle guards. Approximately two miles from the fork, immediately after crossing the second cattle guard, take the dirt road to the left. (If you come to a crossroads you've gone too far.) This road will take you to a green gate, with a sign that reads "Legend Rock." The gate is locked. Use the key given to you at the the Bath House in Hot Springs State Park. Drive through the gate and make sure you lock it behind you. About one mile past this gate is a parking area and a sign pointing toward Legend Rock. When you leave, lock the gate behind you, and place the key in the drop box next to the gate. |
