 Overview

The Red Gulch / Alkali National Backcountry Byway traverses 32 miles over improved gravel and dirt roads along the western edge of the Bighorn Mountains. The byway lets you travel an historic route while exploring the many different types of transportation our ancestors used to pass through this region.

  • Near Reeves Corner: 4,183 feet
  • Near Hyattville: 4,535 feet

Directions: Accessed off of U.S. 14, four miles west of Shell (or eight miles east of Greybull); near Reeves Corner. The Byway heads south to U.S. 31, north of Hyattville.
