The Ten Sleep Fish Hatchery was constructed in 1939 and is nestled in beautiful Ten Sleep Canyon. The spectacular canyon walls are so steep they block the sun from mid-November to mid-February, making for a chilly winter. Three full time permanent personnel work year-round and are responsible for the management of the Yellowstone cutthroat trout broodstock, egg care, incubation, fish rearing, fish stocking, and the care and maintenance of the hatchery. One person must be present at the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to monitor fish and egg production. |
