After visiting the Castle Gardens Scenic Area west of the small town of Ten Sleep we made a quick run into the mouth of Ten Sleep Canyon to visit the Ten Sleep Fish Hatchery. Fish hatcheries tend to be peaceful locations with well kept grounds and cooling tanks of young fish, awaiting release into an area's streams and lakes.
The Ten Sleep Fish Hatchery is no exception. There are the reddish cliffs of surrounding Ten Sleep Canyon, the tall green trees, and the lush green lawns. There is no fee, and after visiting the informational kiosk, we took a self guided tour of the facilities. We went inside the main building, where the rearing tanks were mostly empty on this day. But we did get to see some fingerlings swimming about.
Back outside we strolled through the various tanks where we could see various sized fish swimming about. There were some very large fish in the settling tanks, and more colorful varieties in some of the domed circular tanks.
Unless you are really into fish, these hatcheries are probably not destinations in themselves, but we generally find them a nice diversion on the way to somewhere else.
