Reserve your place under the stars. The NRRS equips you to camp with confidence at USDA Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and some National Park Service campgrounds During autumn and winter you can reserve the campsite you want for next summer. Phone 877-444-6777 or go online to ReserveUSA.com. (TDD: 877-833-6777; INTL: 518-855-3639). Another option is to use the American Park Network.

Advance Reservations

  • Individual Family Sites: 240 days in advance of arrival.
  • Group Sites: 360 days in advance of arrival.
  • Alaska Cabins: 180 days in advance of arrival.

  • Your advance payment confirms a reservation, giving you the assurance even during the busiest season that a campsite awaits your when you arrive.

Toll-Free Call Check List

You will be asked to provide the following information when you make a reservation via the toll-free number (877-444-6777):

  • Campground name or State.
  • Arrival and departure date.
  • Type of site required.
  • Method of payment.
  • Your Golden Age or Golden Access Passport number (if applicable).
 
 Camping at Selected National Forests

Selected National Forest throughout the United States offer a full array of camping environments—lakes, rivers, mountains, deserts—where you will find the outdoor adventure you most enjoy. For your convenience, you can reserve your favorite campsite in advance of your arrival by calling the USFS Campground Reservation Center.

The USFS Campground Reservation Center allows you to reserve a specific site at your favorite campground. Simply tell the Recreation Specialist the type of adventure you want—hiking, boating, fishing, etc.—and he or she will locate the National Forest just right for you.

 Peak Seasons
Reservations are advised for all selected National Forest campgrounds during "peak seasons." The peak season for most campgrounds is Memorial Day through Labor Day.

 Off-Peak Seasons
Most Districts keep some sites open after Labor Day, weather permitting. For campsite availability information, call the USFS Reservation Center at 1-800-280-2267.

 Phone-In Reservations

Call the USFS Campground Reservation Center at 1-800-280-CAMP. The center will operate during the following hours:

  • January—September: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • October—December: Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

You may make reservations up to 12 months for group sites and 120 days for family sites, in advance of your first night of arrival, or as late as 10 days prior to your arrival.

Note: While you have the Recreation Specialist on the phone, please verify that your reservation is for the right date and campground, and that your arrival and departure dates are correct. A service fee will be charged to any changes made to your reservation once you complete your call.

 Fees

The USFS Campground Reservation Center will collect all fees—the reservation fee and the camping fee for all nights of your visit—at the time you make your reservation. MasterCard and Visa are accepted with phone reservations; MasterCard, Visa, personal checks, and money orders are accepted with mail-in reservations.

  • Reservation Fee (non refundable)—Family: $7.50
  • Cancellation Fee: $7.00

 Mail-In Reservations

Obtain a Camping Reservation Application form from your local Forest Service Office, or by writing to any Forest Service Office. You may mail reservation applications 12 months for group sites and 120 days for single family sites in advance of your first night of arrival. Applications received earlier than this will be returned without processing. Be sure to include alternate dates and campgrounds on your applications. If your original request cannot be filled, a reasonable attempt will be made to reach you to obtain an alternate date, but if that isn't possible, your application will be returned unfilled. Reservation vouchers cannot be held for you at the campground or mailed to a temporary address.

Allow at least 10 days for processing mail applications. Neither the National Forests nor the USFS Campground Reservation Center are responsible for delays in postal service. When you receive your voucher, check it carefully to make sure all information is correct. If there is an error, call the USFS Campground Reservation Center at 1-800-280-2267.

 Early Departures

If you must leave the campground earlier than expected, contact a campground attendant to request a refund of unused camping fees, less a $7.50 cancellation fee. Your request will be sent to you. If no attendant is available, please write your nearest Forest Service office. Service fees are non refundable.

Please note that the camping day begins at 2:00 p.m. Campers who request an early departure refund after 2:00 p.m. will forfeit that night's camping fee.

 Failure to Show and Late Arrival

If you fail to occupy your reserved campsite by 2:00 p.m. on the day following your scheduled date of arrival, it will be made available to other campers.

If you arrive late and your site is still available, feel free to occupy it. If other campers are in the site, ask a campground attendant if another site is available, or drive through the campground until you find an available non-reserved site, occupy it, and then notify a campground attendant. No refunds will be granted for late arrivals.

If you are unable to occupy your reserved site, refunds may be requested in writing for any days remaining until your scheduled departure date. All written requests must be sent to the US Forest District office. Any refunds will be at the discretion of the US Forest Service.

 Cancellations
If you must cancel or change a reservation, call the USFS Campground Reservation Center at least 14 days in advance of the first night's stay for a family, or 30 days in advance for group campsites. You will be charged a $7.50 fee and the balance of your camping fees will be refunded. If you cancel 13 days or less in advance of the first night's stay for family, or 29 days for group, you will also be charged the first night's camping fee. Cancellation requests must be made by contacting the Reservation Center no later than the day before your reserved night of stay. Keep your voucher until your account has been credited or your refund received. Reservation fees are non refundable.

 Refunds
Your camping fees will be refunded if no site is available due to a natural emergency such as fire, flood, etc., or a sudden campground closure. No refunds will be granted due to adverse weather conditions.

 At the Campground
It is the responsibility of each camper to know and abide by the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to Selected National Forests. For copies of the rules, contact a campground attendant, or the US Forest District office nearest you.

 Group Activities
Special group sites are available at many campgrounds to accommodate clubs, schools, and large families. Group capacities range from 10 to over 100. For information on group camping or to reserve a group campsite, contact the USFS Campground Reservation Center at 1-800-280-2267 and ask for group reservations.

 Golden Age and Access Passports
If you posses one of these passports, you will be entitled to a 50% discount on use fees or a single family campsite. You will be required to show the passport when you arrive at the campground.

 Recreational Vehicles (RVs)

RV (recreational vehicle) includes campers, fifth wheels, motor homes, trailers, vans, vans with side tents, and ten trailers. To measure your camping equipment:

  • For campers, motor homes, and vans, measure from the front to the rear bumper of the vehicle.
  • For towed vehicles, measure from the front bumper of the tow vehicle to the rear bumper of the towed vehicle.
