Canyon Country Animals
Birds: Cormorants
There are several species of Cormorants, but what we usually see in canyon country is the Double-crested Cormorant (Cormorant Phalacrocorax auritus). They are the most widespread of the Cormorants in North America and appear blackish overall from a distance, but may appear to have a green sheen in certain lighting. During breeding season they have two small tufts of feathers on the sides of their head, which are white in the western birds.
