Birds: Mourning Dove
The Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) is a common sight across the continental United States and much of southern Canada. This dove can be distinguished from similar species by its long pointed tail bordered by large white tips on all feathers but the four innermost. The young have a more scaly appearance to the upper parts and more spots on the wings.

Notes
- The main photo on this page was taken in our back yard in Utah. However, this bird appears to be an Inca Dove rather than a Mourning Dove. If so, this species is not usually seen this far north.
- We have seen doves from the Sonoran Desert on up into northern Utah.
